Making the Connections Essay #2 (Corresponds with Observation 2)
These are essay assignments. These essays are to be turned in in Blackboard as Microsoft Word attachments, in the Assignments and Activities folder within the weekly content area of which it is due, by the date listed on the course calendar. You will write a total of 2 essays, one essay for each of the observations, and will include the Observations with the corresponding Making the Connections Essay. Next, using the information you obtained in each observation you will follow the guidelines below:
Please note that you can only use an example and key term for the child’s behavior once during the essay, even though it may fit in more than one domain of development. Also, please see the example Making the Connection Essay in the Helpful Materials folder for guidance, and complete your essay using that exact format. Please note also, that this assignment is to be completed in essay format. You will not just list the examples.
Cognitive
List the child’s age and stage of Piaget’s Cognitive Development Theory that the child is in, and describe briefly Piaget’s thoughts on cognitive development for the age of the child you have observed. This will be different for each essay, because the child’s age will be different!
Describe 2 examples of cognitive development found in your observation assignment. Link each example to a different “Key Terms for Making the Connections Essays” for cognitive development, found in the Helpful Materials folder, (these are the only terms approved for use).
Language Development:
Describe Vygotsky’s theory for language development for the child you observed based on his/her age (list the child’s age). Use key terms coined by Vygotsky. This will be different for each essay, because the child’s age will be different!
Describe 1 example of language development found in your observation activities. Link your example to one of the “Key Terms for Making the Connections Essays” for language development, found in the Helpful Materials folder, (these are the only terms approved for use).
Psychosocial Development
List the child’s age and stage of Erik Erikson’s Psychosocial Development Theory that the child you observed is in, and describe briefly Erikson’s thoughts on social emotional development for the age of the child you have observed. This will be different for each essay, because the child’s age will be different!
Describe 2 examples of social emotional development found in your observation assignment. Link each example to a different “Key Terms for Making the Connections Essays” for social emotional development, found in the Helpful Materials folder, (these are the only terms approved for use).
Overall Assessment: Write an overall assessment of the child’s cognitive/language, social emotional, and physical development. Be specific and include actual examples of behavior, per your observations, about the child’s development that support your assessment. Do not just repeat what you have stated in the essay. Use the developmental charts found in the text to guide you when reporting the child’s skill levels.
