Purpose:
This initial assignment is in actuality the first phase of a four-part assignment series that comprises the majority of the assessments for this class. The assignments build on each. This step is asking for students to select a business process which they can improve using the process described in the course. By completing the assignment, students will in conjunction with future assignments demonstrate an understanding how to create a framework to improve a process using tools learned in the course.
Instructions:
Stage 1: Business Process Idea
After reviewing the class materials from weeks one and two, students should identify three different ideas to improve a process that is in desperate need of improvement. The ideas identified should come from a work or organizational experience (PTA, Volunteer job, Church etc.). In a short, two paragraph memo (100 to 150 words for each idea) identify the process and discuss why the process needs improvement. Be sure to define all the terms (e.g. process, improvement) needed to justify the conclusion you have drawn. All conclusions must be supported by the class material and any required research. This process will have to be used through out the class so it is incumbent upon you to get approval from the instructor before proceeding on to your assignments.
