Concert or Musical Activity Report
This course requires you to attend or watch four “live” concerts OR complete two activity reports in place of each concert report. Prior to watching or going to any concerts, be sure to read Prelude 1 in your textbook, “Listening to Music Today,” to help you know what to expect, to learn traditional concert etiquette, and to assist you in finding interesting programs on your campus in your community, or live recorded concerts. This assignment must be completed prior to the last week of the class.
The following section is designed to guide you in knowing how to listen at concerts and how to write a concert report. There are five concert report outlines in this section, each designed for a particular type of program. Select the report that corresponds to the concert you attended. The questions vary slightly, depending on whether the works are vocal or instrumental, and popular or world music. Some concerts offer a mixture of styles and genres. I ask you that you focus your attention on one or two selections to describe in some detail. Select the links below to see the report forms provided:
- Concert Report 1 – Instrumental Music
- Concert Report 2 – Choral or Vocal Music
- Concert Report 3 – Dramatic Music
- Concert Report 4 – Popular Music
- Concert Report 5 – World Music

These are meant to serve as guidelines in approaching your assignment or special project. You may take an outline form with you to the concert notes. You are required to submit written reports.
ATTENTION! Some concerts are available for VIEWING online.
If you are unable to attend a live concert, you may substitute one concert with two musical activity reports. Choose from the selection below or check with the instructor if you want to do something different.
